A HARVEST SUPPER UPDATE!

We've decided to use the 2024 Harvest Supper to support our dear friends Ashley Capps and Travis Schultz at Asheville's Newstock Pantry, a from-the-heart, community-focused food business located in the city's River Arts District. If you’ve seen pictures of the River Arts District recently, it won’t surprise you that Newstock’s storefront was completely demolished in the flooding that ravaged southern Appalachia. And Newstock isn’t a well-funded, well-insured establishment with resources to bounce back. Ashley and Travis operate on tight budgets and slim margins, with their own personal equity. They don’t have investors to share the financial burden of this loss, and they’ve drained what resources they had to settle recent payroll for their staff.

But what about us? Well, sure, we’re still in a crowdfunding campaign, and we still could use some help to build the on-farm kitchen we need. But we have a strong base of support behind us, and right now, we’re just fine. Plenty of folks in our Appalachian food community need immediate help more than we do. We’ll plan another big fundraiser dinner for our on-farm kitchen sometime, probably in the spring.

Right now, though, it ain’t about us. And that’s what feels right.

The Harvest Supper includes a six-course menu (along with plenty of surprises) featuring some of our favorite dishes and the very best ingredients from the late-fall harvest. Specially crafted nonalcoholic beverages will be paired with each course. Guests may bring their own wine or beer.

Joining us for the 2024 Harvest Supper is a very special guest, our good friend, Chef Abra Berens from Granor Farm in southern Michigan. Abra has been nominated for multiple James Beard Awards, both as a chef at Granor Farm and as an author of several cookbooks, including “Ruffage: A Practical Guide to Vegetables”, “Grist: A Practical Guide to Cooking Grains, Beans, Seeds, and Legumes”, and “Pulp: A Practical Guide to Cooking with Fruit”. We’re so grateful for Abra’s support, and we look forward to collaborating with her for the 2024 Harvest Supper!
